How to Defragment your Harddrive in XP

Use one of the following methods to launch Disk Defragmenter, then follow the Defragment Procedure below to actually Start Defragmenting a volume

{PCINFO: Disk Defragmenter scans you hard drive and attempts to put each file together in a contiguous space.  A contiguous space means each part of the file is together instead of seperated across your drive.  This can improve drive access performance.}

Method One:
1. Click on Start > Run and in the Open: field enter dfrg.msc, then click on the OK button.

Method Two:
1. Click on Start and select Control Panel.
2. Double click on Administrative Tools.
3. Double click on Computer Management.
4. In the left pane, if a  is beside Storage, click the  to expand Storage.
5. In the left pane, select Disk Defragmenter.

Method Three:

1. Click on Start and right click on My Computer and select
Manage.
2. In the left pane, if a  is beside Storage, click the  to expand Storage.
3. In the left pane, select Disk Defragmenter.

Method Four:
1. Open My Computer and right click on the drive you want to defragment and select Properties.
2. Click on the Tools tab.
3. Click the Defragment Now... button.
 
Defragment Procedure:
1. Select the volume(C, D, etc.) you want to defrag.
2. Click on the Defragment button.
